Game On: Zorro™: The Roleplaying Game
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
Gallant Knight Games (GKG) is a roleplaying game company focused on heroic and dramatic storytelling through gaming. They are dedicated to high-quality roleplaying, card, and board games. Alan Bahr leads the team as the designer and is best known for the TinyD6 line of games. GKG was able to contract and finish the core art for Zorro™: The Roleplaying Game and with eleven Kickstarters under their belt, they released Zorro™ with confidence.
Zorro™: The Roleplaying Game was launched on Kickstarter in January 2019 and reached 84% of its funding goal on the first day. The game was soon funded, and GKG posted regular updates to backers. They shared a preview of the rules and did a live Q&A after the campaign ended. The stretch goals added several key extras to the game, including new adventures. Game designers, James Michael Spahn and Elizabeth Chaipraditkul each wrote a new 5,000-word adventure to be added to the book. By the end of the campaign, 680 backers pledged $32,124 to help bring this project to life.
Players get to bring Zorro, their favorite freedom fighter and hero, to the game table. In this full tabletop roleplaying game, players join forces with Zorro to fight against evil land and railroad barons and scoundrel soldiers. The rulebook brings Zorro to homes in a whole new way. The game is powered by the brand new edition of West End Games classic ruleset: D6 System 2e.
The full-color rulebook is over 200 pages with a hardcover and comes in a faux-leather collectors edition. The book details the settings of Zorro’s adventures in Alta, California. It also gives rules to emulate the actions of this masked hero. The book was created under license from Zorro Productions Inc and had access to over 70 years of Zorro history, artwork, and media.
