Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

25th Century Games is a tabletop publishing studio that creates out-of-this-world games and puzzles that bring people together. Their game titles include Jurassic Parts, Space Explorers, Kingswood, Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, and Christmas Lights. They believe in the importance of family and friends gathering together around the table to enjoy each other’s company. Their games are a way for people to step away from digital mediums and make lasting memories together.

Kingswood launched on Kickstarter in April 2019. Within a week the project was fully funded and 25th Century Games released stretch goals and a live playthrough for backers. All 11 stretch goals were met, bringing new locations, bigger meeples, and thicker tokens to the game. 25th Century Games asked backers for their feedback on location ideas. The team narrowed down the list of ideas and put the final ideas open for a vote.  By the end of the campaign, 1,494 backers pledged $48,104 to help bring this project to life.

The game is set in a prominent town where the King has issued a challenge: rid the surrounded forest of monsters. Players take turns controlling the adventures moving around the village. Players can travel to different locations to build up new or refresh their existing resources. Once a player feels confident they have enough resources, they venture into the forest and encounter a variety of monsters. When defeated, Monsters give points to the player, and some offer immediate benefits. The first player to gain 20 glory points triggers the end of the game. The guild leader with the highest glory points total wins the game.

Kingswood offers a solo play mode where the player is now defending the town from the monsters. One monster card is added to the Forest at the start of each turn, and the player must be able to slay two of the mightiest beasts in the forest to win. This light-weight family-friendly game is easy to learn and fun to play.
