Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Mike Gnade, from Rock Manor Games, is an entrepreneur, designer, coder, and gamer. Rock Manor Games is a small independent game publisher with game brands like Maximum Apocalypse, Set a Watch, and Brass Empire. Mike grew up drawing collectible superhero cards based on his pats before creating an actual fantasy card game out of note cards. His love of games has never changed, and now he distributes his games worldwide.

Maximum Apocalypse: Legendary Edition was launched on Kickstarter in April 2019 and was funded that same day. Mike thanked backers and said this campaign with the miniatures was an important step for where Maximum Apocalypse was headed. He clarified the big box and miniatures are not add-ons, and every pledge can plan on getting the entire set. Stretch goals were met, and a Legendary Rulebook was unlocked along with the other seven stretch goals. By the end of the campaign, 2,855 backers pledged $147,637 to help bring this project to life.

Maximum Apocalypse is a cooperative game that was built to be very modular and infinitely replayable. Picking a survivor class within the group, players plan their strategy and work together in order to defeat monsters and avoid starvation. As a survivor of the apocalypse, players gather weapons, battle monsters, draw cards and scavenge the wasteland for supplies. As part of the setup, players select a mission or scenario ad play until completed or failed.

In the Legendary Edition, 12 survivor miniatures were added, and game trays were designed for stacking and storage. This edition offers a massive box that fits all the components for every expansion of the game so far and plenty of room for what’s to come. Rock Manor Games added a Role Playing Game Quickstart based on the original game. The Legendary Edition includes the base Maximum Apocalypse game, Kaiju Rising extension, Gothic Horrors KSE, Jurassic Perils, and all stretch goals from the original campaigns.
