With over ten years in hobby gaming, Stronghold Games continues to publish great games, now adding Egizia: Shifting Sands to their lineup. They’ve merged with Indie Boards & Cards, and together the team has released over 45 successful Kickstarter projects. Stronghold Games is best known for its smash hit and #4 of all time on BGG “Terraforming Mars,” and their best selling "Survive: Escape From Atlantis.” Their release of Egizia: Shifting Sands was done with the goal of bringing back a fan favorite. Maintaining the love and respect for the original game while breathing fresh air into the gameplay.

Each day of the campaign Stronghold Games unlocked new promos or upgrades and showed off their mechanics, new cards, and components. Their campaign quickly grew to over 1,500 backers and called Egizia: Shifting Sands a “love letter.” Stretch goals brought thicker player boards and spot UV on the covers and boards. Wooden score markers were also added, along with cards to extend the game. By the end of the campaign, 1,734 backers pledged $78,883 to help bring this project to life.

The game is set in the Nile, and the Pharaoh has sent down to edict his best builders. He requires five monuments in his name. Players who build the best monuments are awarded riches, fame, and honor. Players gather their resources, organize crews, and build with marble and gold on the banks of the Nile. Egizia: Shifting Sands is a modern update of Egizia that players can easily pick up and enjoy. Players travel down the Nile collecting resources that will help them construct some of Egypt’s most famous monuments. This version comes with all new monuments to build, new cards, and a constantly shifting river.

Egizia: Shifting Sands is a card drafting, worker placement game. It is played over five rounds with six phases in each round: River Set Up, Placement, Mining, Feeding, Building, Clean Up. In each round, players will place boats along the Nile to increase the strength of their construction crews. They will also add new fields, obtain cards, and build sections of the monuments. The player at the end of the game with the most points wins. Players score points by building monuments and at the end for sphinx cards and statue bonuses.
