Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.

Woody Hutsell and Adam Chunn founded HutChu Games in 2016 to serve as a creative outlet for board gaming inspirations. Plunderbund: The Back Alley Business Board Game is their first game as HutChu Games. Together, Adam and Woody have funded over 140 Kickstarter Campaigns. Both Adam and Woody are big fans of tabletop games and review other games they play on their social media channels.

Plunderbund launched on Kickstarter in March 2019, with the funding goal of $25,000. They reached their goal several days into the campaign and thanked their backers for proving that campaigns can be successful even when they don’t get funded in 24 hours. Throughout the campaign, HutChu Games shared updates and art highlights from illustrator Joe Shawcross. Their stretch goals brought new player mats, a rule book, custom coin track and tuck boxes. By the end of their Kickstarter campaign, 492 backers pledged $38,349 to help bring this project to life.

Plunderbund is a deck building, worker placement and area of control strategy game. Set in a prohibition era world, this high-fantasy game has stunning art and offers an Art Book for those who love the illustrations in the game. Players lead a guild to dominate the market for illegal goods in Sprawl, a city rich in history and lawlessness. Through deck building, players recruit and task a mob of Agents, Racketeers, and other to build your reputation by selling goods. Opponents can cause chaos as they work to create strong networks of agents and get the most desirable goods from the black market.

At the start of the game, each player has a guild represented by the eight starting player cards. Guild members act by taking favors and players must “pay back” the favor or risk losing their reputation. Selling black market goods and extorting build up a player’s reputation in the game. At the end of the game, a final scoring measures the balance of power for each player in each of the four regions on the game board. The player with the highest reputation score wins the title of Boss of Bosses.
