Game On: X-ODUS- Rise of the Corruption
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
Bored Game Ink is a tabletop game publisher bringing new, exciting, and unique gaming experiences to their customers. Their games offer great mechanics, gorgeous design, and glorious geekiness. What started as a passion project grew to a powerhouse team sharing their passion with their worldwide audience. X-ODUS is their first game on Kickstarter.
X-ODUS- Rise of the Corruption launched on Kickstarter in June 2019 and was 50% funded their first day. They offered their backers first looks at a long series of Exploration cards as the campaign progressed. Their stretch goals were shared as the funding grew to over 500% of their fund goal. The remaining stretch goals were met and bakers were awarded with custom art for the Enemies and Avatar characters in the game. Their stretch goals were designed to make the game as luxurious as possible. At the end of the campaign 3,590 backers pledged €170,054 to help bring this project to life.
The game combines four different influences and styles in a mixed and balanced way that bring unique gaming experience to the players. The modular board with its random encounters, enemies and allies, and explorations all offer a high replayability value, ensuring each game is a new experience. It’s a cooperative game where players share their actions and tactical decisions which brings plenty of interaction around the table. The RPG elements offer each of the six players unique abilities allowing players to evolve and specialize as the game progresses. And the narrative element brings in key events and tense encounters across the galaxy.
Players team up to reveal and explore star systems, fight and evade powerful enemies, and increase their power and journey to the end of the Galaxy. Each turn players reveal and explore new systems. These systems bring opportunities like meeting allies or enemies and players must avoid the “Corrupt”, the darkest places in the galaxy. Players will be able to assemble their fleets on each turn and team up with other players to face the challenges. Each combat is decided by quick rounds of dice rolling. As the game progresses players unlock new and powerful abilities that build on each other to face tougher challenges. Players win when they get the keys required to seal the Rift at the end of the journey.
