Game On: Krosmaster Blast
“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.
The French board game company Ankama BoardGames is known for its previous Kickstarter Games like Monster Slaughter, Tales of Glory, Draftosaurus, and others. Founded in 2001, Ankama specializes in all areas of entertainment: video games, animations, board games, and editions. Each of their stories is unique but also connected, creating a far-reaching fan experience. Over a dozen creators were involved in this Krosmaster Blast game and project on Kickstarter.
Krosmaster Blast launched on Kickstarter November 2018 and was fully funded in a few hours. Over the next few weeks, several stretch goals were unlocked and Ankama gave almost daily updates. Their updates introduced new characters and explained to backers the process of launching a game via Kickstarter. New characters were released: the Justice Knight, Ogrest, Percedal, and Anathar. A whole new game board was added along with a larger battlefield. Ankama also released a new game mode with a Nemesis Mini deck and expansion pack. Other stretch goals included six new Divine Challenge cards and PDfs, card sleeves, and an orange die.
Krosmaster Blast is a fast-paced tactical combat and area control game. Krosmoz is a land of adventure and magic where legends are born and dragons lay eggs that hold unlimited power. The Twelve Gods have assembled warriors in a never-ending competition. Players use miniatures with character cards to beat their opponents in the arena.
Players must collect as many glyphs as possible and use their special terrain tiles and force their opponents into their traps. The game ends when a player can successfully eliminate their opponent by the tenth round, or the player with the most glyphs at the end of the tenth round wins. Eleven different miniatures make up the full cast of the game and three different maps mean each gameplay is unique.
Brawl Game mode involves up to 4 players where each player controls two Krosmasters. The team that has accumulated the most Glory points at the end of the game wins. In Nemesis Mode, two sides fight each other in asymmetrical scenarios with one player against everyone else. Other characters can be used for slightly different gameplay leaving room for countless options of play.
