“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.”

Funny Fiends was created by SideKick Lab. Sidekick lab is a printing and packaging company that is located in Vermont. They specialize in accurately reproducing the materials and methods of classic wax pack trading cards. SideKick has manufactured trading cards for Topps, Skybound, Fox, Buff Monster, and many more.

They launched their project Funny Fiends on Kickstarter on January 29, 2019 and offered a promo card for Day 1 pledgers only. They had a phenomenal first day and were able to go way past their goal. They offered a stretch goal of a poster to advertise the sale of their cards for their first stretch goal. They then offered chase cards for meeting their next stretch goal. Their project successfully funded by February 21 having raised $18,258.

Funny Fiends was created by John Detrich and Stephen Blickenstaff. They are a homage to the classic monster stickers cards from the 60’s and 70’s. There are 100 monster monikers in all. The artists spent two years painting and creating each character so that there are no reprints, reproductions, or imports. They are highly detailed and have true vintage style.

“Each "hobby box" includes 24 vintage style hand-folded and heat-sealed wax wrapped packs (number of stickers per pack to be determined, but a minimum of 6). The cards, packs, and boxes are printed, packaged, and assembled entirely in the USA, and are designed to replicate the look and feel of classic monster sticker cards.  SideKick specializes in high quality printing techniques, and careful curation of materials to give every product a lasting, loving touch.
