“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.”

AEG was started by John Zinser. John had been playing games since the time that he was 13 years old. He and his friends loved to play Dungeons and Dragons. He was a serial entrepreneur and had started many companies before deciding to go into gaming. At the time John was working in golf marketing and had decided to pursue a career in his passion of gaming. With the support of his parents he opened a warehouse in Apply Valley. His company Alderac Entertainment Games has now been publishing games for over 20 years and has published titles such as Custom Heroes, Dice City, Ecos, Istanbul, and Junta to name just a few.

AEG released their game Valley of the Kings on Kickstarter on April 2, 2019. Within the first day they were fully funded. Throughout their campaign AEG shared intriguing aspects of Egyptian history. they highlighted the different pharaohs of Egypt and their cards for the game. They decided to not do stretch goals and to instead include all of the upgrades in the original price of the game. They talked about the Egyptian characters that were going to be part of the game. By April 16 they had successfully funded their campaign raising over $100,000.

Valley of the Kings is a deck building game that is centered around ancient Egypt. In the game players are the nobles in the times of ancient Egypt and are gathering items that they can use to sustain themselves in the afterlife.  The game features a unique “crumbling pyramid” mechanic to determine what cards are available on each player’s turn. The box includes randomizers to create themed assortments of cards from all three original games, plus 6 new Unique cards added to the Premium Edition.

There are different artifacts in the deck of cards that gain points like a sarcophagus, figurines, and other artifacts that really would be found in a tomb. Pharaoh cards are included that give unique starting power to each of the players. The cards are Tarot sized and have a linen finish. There are 300 sleeves that come with the game so that you can store and protect your cards. To find out more information about Valley of the Kings please visit the links below.
