Josh and Adam Carlson are the engine of Chip Theory Games. They started the company in 2012 with a vision to make the kind of games they wanted to play. They value strategic depth, versatile game modes, replayability, clever mechanics, engaging story, and upping the ante on production value with the best components in the business”. Their company has now grown to include 12 employees. Some of the other games that they have produced are “Too Many Bones, Triplock, Hoplomachus, and then their new release Cloudspire.

Chip theory Games released Cloudpsire on Kickstarter on October 16, 2018. They had record breaking first day and not only were they able to reach their goal but they also smashed through a lot of their stretch goals. They hosted a launch party where they went through and showed the backers a play through of the game. In the remainder of their updates the team went through details about gameplay and how different elements of the game worked. By November 8 they successfully funded by raising over $530,00 for the funding of their campaign.

Cloudspire has a very unique storyline. The inhabitants in Ankar live in floating islands and the source is said to be the way that those islands float and also the source of their energy for all of their tools. “High above the clouds, the floating realm of Ankar has existed in relative peace for centuries. Home to a number of creatures and beings, several islands have floated independent of each other, kept afloat and apart by a mysterious energy known as “The Source.” But it seems that The Source is not limitless. As tensions rise over the availability of this precious resource, still-unsolved shifts in the isles’ stability have put all of Ankar’s nation states on edge. Islands are beginning to crash into one another, and an all out war for each island’s supply of Source is about to initiate chaos in the skies.”

The objective of Cloudspire is to destroy your opponents fortress. A typical game plays in about two hours the board is made up of large hexgroups that are attached until the center group is surrounded. The game has multiple waves that are played: The event phase, the market phase, the building phase, the preparations phase, and the onslaught phase. During the phases you build up your fortresses and then you battle. Each of the factions in cloudspire has their own talents and abilities that will help them in the game.
