“Game On” is a series in which we examine the companies, creators, and games in crowdfunding. We look at the journey, ideas, and concepts the creators wanted to bring to market with their product.”

Keith Matejka is the founder of Thunderworks Games -- a small board and card game design / publishing company out of Madison, WI that started in 2013. Their company is very dedicated to customer satisfaction and providing good customer service. Keith loves the way that board games allow him to connect with others and put everyday worries aside to enjoy friends. Lockup is the 7th title from Thunderworks. Previous titles include: Bullfrogs, Blend Off!, Roll Player, Roll Player: Monsters & Minions, Dual Powers: Revolution 1917, and Lockup: A Roll Player Tale.

Thunderworks games reached out to Kickstarter for the release of Lockup. They released the game on September 19, 2018 and it was immediately funded. They immediately started making out stretch goals introducing new cards that could be included in the game.

By the end of the week the team was able to unlock the first four stretch goals and went on to announce the unlocking of some cards that would give the players traits. The traits included cunning, clumsy, confident. envious, ambitious, foolish, courageous, fearless, focused and dedicated. By the end of the campaign Thunderworks was able to successfully raise just under $80,000 for the printing of their game.

“In Lockup: A Roll Player Tale, players command squadrons of captured minions. (The minions have been captured as a result of a war.) They must keep their suspicion from the guards under control while hiring the strongest crew and building the most powerful items. The crew with the highest reputation wins the game and a chance to fight for their freedom” The different groups that players can command are Insectioids, Goblins, Gnolls, Kobolds, and more. Each of these groups are competing against the other and only the strongest will be able to win.

Lockup is a worker placement game with elements of bluffing, set collection, resource management, and variable scoring to make sure each game feels different. Collect and play tome cards at the right moment to get the upper hand. Each player's crew has members with different strengths and abilities. Knowing when and where to use each member of the crew is key to success in Kulbak.” To find out more about Lockup or to view their Kickstarter campaign please visit the links below.
