“Delivered:” is a series in which we look at crowdfunded ideas that have successfully shipped to their supporters. We dive into the final product, after its long journey from concept to fulfillment.

With the Pocket Super Shelter, Mikhail Merkurieff has created a life saving warm shelter that could save my life in the wild. He saw the need for the shelter when he noticed that none of the other lifesaving blankets on the market created heat for the body. The design for the shelter was inspired by the design of Morris Cohansky, who is a knowledgeable survival expert. Mikhail took Morris’s idea of a shelter and turned it into something that I can fit into my pocket. Making the design easier to carry with me everywhere I go.

The Pocket Super Shelter is different than others in the fact that it helps to heat the body. If I am ever in a survival situation, I may be sick, injured, malnourished or tired and my body may not have the energy that it needs to create heat. The pocket super shelter was designed to address the 5 heat loss mechanisms I could experience while out in the wild: touching something colder than I am, convection wind chill, radiating heat away from body, respirating heat away from the body, and water evaporation which accelerates heat loss. The super shelter addresses every one of these factors.

Mikhail has teamed up with Heatsheets to provide the best quality thermal reflective material for the shelter. It works by using radiant heat from a campfire, and traps the heat the same way that a green house traps sunlight. The thermal reflective material then directs the heat from the fire that will envelope me in warmth and comfort. Even in a shirt and shorts and the super shelter will help me to stay warm as long as I start a fire.

Heat loss can make the difference between life and death. The Pocket Super Shelter is compact, easy to carry, has a simple set up, can protect me from the wind and the rain, and can reflect and trap heat so that I can get warmer faster. And it easily fits into my pocket to be carried with me on excursions.
